After-School Drama Clubs

Icon Theatre runs after-school drama clubs in primary schools across north-east London.

These clubs deliver a unique curriculum that we have developed to help build self-confidence and communication skills in young people.

Activities

Sessions improve verbal skills, physical co-ordination and fitness, and are enjoyable, creative and above all fun.

Activities include:

·            acting & improvising

·            structured scenes

·            movement based work

·            character creation

·            guided adventures

·            mime and mask techniques

·            basic stage fighting (ages 7-11 only!)

·            ensemble theatre

·           techniques to develop articulation, projection and awareness of body language.

For ages 4-6, sessions are tied into a theme for each term, such as Under the Sea, The Circus or In the Jungle.  Students create a short show for the last week of each term which is performed in front of friends and family.

For ages 7- 12, a short ‘seasonally themed’ show is performed at the end of the autumn term.  Then, over the next two terms, students devise, write and then rehearse a larger scale production which is shown at the end of the summer term.

Prices

We charge students £3.50 per session, and can offer some financial assistance to children from families who need help.  We collect money in cash every half term in advance (5 sessions at a time) on the first class of term.  If you are unable to pay in cash at this session, please send a cheque made payable to 'Icon Theatre' to Icon Theatre, 15 Darcy House, London Fields East Side, London E8 3RY.

For more details on payments please click here.

Size of groups and timings

Currently, we run weekly sessions in two groups, for ages 4-6 and 7-11.

We find our groups work best if there are up to 20 children in the older group, and up to 15 children in the younger group.  Sessions are one hour long.

Groups for different ages can be run both on the same day, or on different days if space is limited. Single groups can also be run if required.

Staff

Our teachers are qualified professional actors and directors with proven experience of teaching drama to primary school children, with clear full CRB checks and CVs available for inspection. They also receive training before starting work with Icon, in how best to deliver our unique curriculum.

We are happy to administer the whole programme and liaise directly with parents, or we can arrange it so that all contact with parents comes via the school.
