The Shingle Dance
by Ian Miller
The Shingle
Dance
follows the lonely
Max Helter as he struggles to come to terms with life after losing the use of
his legs in an accident. Trained as a dancer, Max cuts off all contact from
those around him, and moves to a desolate hut on the coast. Painstakingly, he
creates human like machines that can dance in his stead, and in doing so, is
forced to build the beginnings of a new relationship – one that eventually leads
him to rediscover life.
Icon Theatre
has spent two weeks researching and developing music and stage techniques for
this piece, following the award of an Arts Council project grant.
The
Shingle Dance is an
evocative, sensually rich piece of writing with the potential for song, dance,
mask and puppetry in its full stage production. If you would be interested
