The School

Icon Theatre School runs weekly theatre and dance classes in Leytonstone for children and young people aged 7 - 19. 

We teach a broad range of theatre skills, including script and text based work, improvising and devising methods, language development, movement based theatre, structured scenes, delivery and projection techniques, and ensemble based drama.

We also teach contemporary dance, with a range of stretches, moves and routines using current pop music, musical numbers, street funk, classical contemporary and jazz dance.

We also teach drama and acting evening classes for adults at the Bishopsgate Institute. For more details on our adult classes please click here.

Benefits to Students

Students often find that their self confidence and communication skills improve noticeably in the course of the theatre year, and learn how to work positively and happily with others.  

Dance classes improve co-ordination and physical fitness, and increase confidence, physical ability and ease of movement.

The atmosphere in the classes is relaxed and supportive, with the emphasis on encouragement and the development of each student’s individual creativity.

The courses:

• have warm and welcoming teachers with extensive experience in drama and dance teaching.  They aim to bring out the best in each student, whether they are shy at the start or bursting with confidence.
   

• are always different lessons – while techniques are developed over each year, the same work is never repeated.
   

• lead to one full production a year at a professional theatre venue, to which family and friends are invited, and include smaller 'showings' at the end of each term to show parents what students have been working on.
