Past Productions Hard Times Croydon Warehouse and UK tour, Autumn 2008 Devised, adapted and performed by James Hyland, Raewyn Lippert & Tom Peters. With buckets of energy, original new music, movement, projection and puppetry, Dickens' classic novel is brought to life. At age 18, the beautiful Louisa is forced to marry a man she detests, while watching her brother descend into a gambling addiction. Factory worker Stephen Blackpool hides the repercussions of a shameful early marriage, while his factory co-workers bay for his blood. The arrival of handsome James Harthouse unleashes the desires of these isolated lives, casting them from the dark mills of Coketown into the high spirited world of the Victorian circus.
'Innovative in its use of mime, physical action and puppetry. Icon Theatre here shows us how important our imaginations are in creating and responding to theatre.' - Lucy Rix, Worcester News
The Odyssey National Tour Spring 2006 From the songs of the sirens, through the whirlpools of Charybdis, the cave of Cyclops and the House of the Dead, The Odyssey is one of the world's best known and most loved adventure tales. It is also the love story of Odysseus and Penelope, whose faltering, human faith in each other battles to survive through twelve long years of absence. When Odysseus returns home from the Trojan wars, avoiding the traps and guiles of the gods, he finds his wife very nearly betrothed to another man, and his son murderous with rage... 'I just want to say what an amazing production I think the Odyssey is. It has left me with some of the most intense theatrical images of the year - it is a triumph of devising and direction - so thanks to the whole company. I've taken twelve theatre trips this year and at least half have disappointed… It's not easy to find physical theatre that's as good as yours.’ - Head of Performing Arts, St Thomas School, Lancashire
The Canterbury Tales National Tour Spring 2005 The Canterbury Tales explores five of Chaucer’s timeless stories. Starting with the drunken bickering of irreverent pilgrims, the production moves between them and the stories that they tell – stories of divinity, wit, sex, flatulence and love. From the raucous, oversexed miller, to the visionary St Cecilia, these stories explore a huge variety of medieval life. Using a variety of theatrical styles including mask and mime, live original music, a fantastical, dream inspired set and a very grim notion of the medieval world, Icon Theatre brings Chaucer to life – possibly as you’ve never seen him before…
